Lace top // Wedge shoes.

Can you tell I love these purple pants? Out of all the colored jeans I own, these get the most wear out of them and I'm not even sure why. I just love them and apparently I have a lot of items in my closet that go with them. Whatcha gonna do...

Home is with You // me
Home is with You // lace top
Home is with You // outfit
Home is with You // wedges
Top: c/o Socishop // Jeans, Earrings, & Wedges: Target // Necklace: Dillards

This lace top from Socishop has also quickly become a favorite of mine. It is so comfy, yet it's perfect for a dressier night out. To me, that's what summer wear is all about, comfort with a little bit of class. It's just not ok to force yourself to wear things that are way too tight when you're burning up. Trust me.

And don't you just love the fun summer nail polish (as in my bright pink nails above)? I know you can wear bright colors all year long, but something about the temperature heating up just makes me want to wear the bright/bold colors!

What about you all, what's your favorite summer item? Anyone have a go-to piece in their closet they'd like to share?

Music is my life...

Today's prompt from the lovely Jenni (who I will be reunited with in a week!) asked us to write about and share five songs or pieces of music that speak to you or bring back memories. Where do I even begin? Music has always been a big part of my life and I knew it always would be, but I never could have known that I would marry a musician (although it makes total sense now).

Music means the world to me. It brightens my day, makes me dance, makes me cry, brings back old memories...it heals me. So how can I choose just five that speak to me or bring back memories? Well, here goes nothing...

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Duh. I mean, I pretty much named my whole blog after this song. I can still listen to this one on repeat and it never gets old. You can't listen to this song without dancing around the room like a fool.

Today by Joshua Radin on Grooveshark

 Today by Joshua Radin
This song reminds me of when I first started dating Dave and my trips down to Texas to see him. Joshua Radin was a current obsession at the time and I would listen to this song while I was out on a run (while Dave was at work) and just smile and be so thankful I finally found him. "You looked right through me when there was no one else. I sat beside beside you and became myself...today."

Let the Time Roll By by Onward Soldiers
I've put this song on my blog before, it's the perfect Friday afternoon song and it puts me in the best mood every time. I also adore the lyrics, “Oh my love, if tommorow never comes can we make the best of what we have today?”

Slow Pony Home by The Weepies
This song floods my memories with our time spent in Maryland. Dave and I lived near Baltimore when we first got married and I got hold of this album...it was probably the only thing in my car CD player the entire year we were there.

We Shall Be Free by Garth Brooks
If the lyrics of this song don't speak to you, you might not be human. I love Garth Brooks through and through, but this song is definitely up near the top of my list. And when he sang this one in concert? Waterworks.

First Time by Dave Owens
I snuck that one in on you, didn't I? This song brings back so many memories. I have loved this song from the first time (pun intended) that I heard it, but now it holds a very special place in my heart because we played this one while we lit our unity candle at our wedding.

Current Favorites ≫≫

Below My Feet by Mumford & Sons on Grooveshark

Below my Feet by Mumford and Sons
This song really speaks to me. It makes me close my eyes, sway back and forth, and just give thanks for the beautiful life we've been given.

Anything by Lana Del Ray (obsessed doesn't even cover it), Leona Naess, the entire soundtrack to the movie Once, Of Mice and Men...and the list goes on.

I'd LOVE to hear what some of your choices would be! New music is my favorite...

Summer lovin'.

I love everything about summer time...the hot heat (yes, I do realize I'm about to move to Alaska), the cold food/drinks, the pool, the clothes...all of it. So today I wanted to share a few of my summer captures (so far) and what summer means to me...

Home is with You // summer dessert
Home is with You // flower
Home is with You // treats
Home is with You // corona
Home is with You // flower
Home is with You // family

cool treats
pretty flowers
snacks by the pool
summer beer
time with friends and family

...that's what summer means to me, what about you?

Wear ↠

I've loved this outfit lately because it's cute, yet professional. I really enjoy getting dressed for the day (when you work from home this is optional), and lately I've found that if I do it first thing in the morning I tend to be more productive throughout the day. Even though, I will admit, some days it's much more appealing to wait until noon to get out of my comfy pants…

Home is with You // wear Home is with You // Target Home is with You // outfit Home is with You // bw Home is with You // wedges
Hat: American Eagle // Top, belt, pants, wedges: Target

Have I mentioned lately that Target is my jam? Because it is. I pretty much buy everything there, and if you ask my Mom I live there part-time. Somehow she always ends up calling me on my way to/from or while I’m at Target. What can I say? I love it. A lot. Anyone else out there a Target fanatic like myself?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I am so excited about this weekend I can’t even stand it. I’m heading to Kansas City for the weekend for a good friend’s engagement party and I get to see my besties. I don’t know how I’ll ever be patient enough to wait until tomorrow evening to hug their necks!

A look back ↠

Today's Blog Every Day in May post is supposed to be our favorite posts in our archives. I love looking back (although sometimes it makes me cringe) and seeing how far I've come with this whole blogging adventure...

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins.

I love pumpkin for many reasons, the main one being the delicious taste, but I also enjoy the way the smell of pumpkin fills up the room. And of course I get excited about the fact that it's a superfood, so even when it's in muffin form, I feel better about chowing down.

Home is with You // muffins

I made these whole wheat chocolate chip pumpkin mini muffins for my family the other day and let's just say they haven't lasted very long. Here's how I made mine...

Home is with You // pumpkin

What you need ≫≫

3 cups whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp and 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp sea salt
3 cups natural brown sugar
1 can Libby's pure pumpkin
4 eggs (we use free range organic, you can replace these with 3 bananas for vegan muffins)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup water
About 1/2 cup chocolate chips (I usually do these by site)

Home is with You // pumpkin muffin

Instructions ≫≫

Preheat oven to 350.

Home is with You // Whole Wheat Muffins

Combine the whole wheat flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, and sea salt in a large mixing bowl. In another large bowl, combine the brown sugar, pumpkin, eggs, oil, and water until blended. Add the two mixtures together and mix well until everything is moist. Add in chocolate chips!

Home is with You // baking

Spoon batter into greased mini muffin tin, if you don't have more than one tin (like me) this will take about 3 batches. Bake for 15 minutes. Let the muffins cool before trying to remove them from the pan.

Enjoy!

Get real ≫≫ a current struggle.

The post office, they're killing me man. My current struggle is packing up all my stuff (again) and shipping it to my husband in Alaska.

If you've been following along, you already know the story, and can skip the next paragraph or two. But for those of you who are new, or stopping by from Jenni's blog, I'll explain a bit. You see, my husband and I have already moved around a bunch since we've been married and then after being in Austin for a year, we made the decision to move to North Carolina. After traveling for 2 months and not having a technical home, we finally got to Greensboro, NC in January, but within the first few hours of being there I found out that a loved one had passed and caught a red eye to be with my family. After spending a few weeks at home, I flew back to North Carolina and we finally found a place of our own.

We rented a cute little cottage in Greensboro and started to settle in, but after just about a month of being there we got a phone call for an offer that was hard to turn down, and we had about a week (maybe two, it was all such a blur I can't remember) to decide what we were going to do. Ultimately, being the crazy people adventurers that we are, we decided to go for it and make the move to Alaska. You can read more about our decision and the move here and here.

Home is with You // packing

ANYWAYS, since our car was already on it's last leg and a road trip to Alaska is ridiculously long, even for us, we decided that our best option was to fly out and ship the things we absolutely have to have to ourselves. This is where my (biggest) current struggle comes in. My husband had to be there immediately, so I am here going through all of our stuff, unpacking and repacking bit by bit. Trying to decide what we have to have in Alaska, what can stay with my parents in storage for the next few years, and what I can part with forever.

I have moaned and groaned on here before about my disdain for packing, but I have to say this move takes the cake. It's hard enough (for me) to decide which of our things we won't need for a few years, but then to try and figure out the cheapest way to ship all of the boxes (all while the post office is trying to screw me)...and I'm spent.

Home is with You // moving

I just keep reminding myself that this is temporary and the faster I just box the stuff up and ship it, the faster it will all be over. If anyone has any tips on shipping big/heavy things for less, let me know! I need all the help I can get. Also, if you're new around here, I'd love to have you follow along on our crazy adventures here.

Your turn...what's something you're struggling with right now?

Flashback Friday ↠ Two Favorite Pictures.

I have always been an avid reader and I know for that I need to thank those special people in my life that constantly read to me, bought me countless books, and encouraged my passion for the written word in any way they could. That's why, for today's Blog Every Day in May prompt, when Jenni asked us to talk about a favorite picture of ourselves and why we liked it, I instantly knew which pictures I would choose.

These two pictures have always been a favorite of mine and no matter how many times we move, they end up front and center on my desk every time. The first picture I couldn't find the digital copy (I blame the fact that all of my belongings are in boxes about to be shipped to Alaska), so you'll have to deal with the picture of a picture version. They're both so old that the quality isn't the best, but that doesn't matter to me, I love them both dearly...

Iris in bloom ↠

Purple irises were my Grandma's favorite flower, which always made them one of my favorites as well. She has some planted in their backyard and many trinkets and decorations that have purple irises all over them. I think of her every time I see one, and that makes them even more special now.

My Mom has a big batch of irises planted in her backyard and we have been waiting anxiously for them to bloom this summer, but they sure took their sweet time. It was well worth the wait. We didn't know what colors they were going to be, and they turned out to be the prettiest things...all purple irises with one white iris (that has purple on it). Beyond gorgeous.

It's sad they don't last longer, but we will be soaking up their beauty for as long as they're here. I can't wait to have a house of our own to plant some of these beauties in my own backyard.

Home is with You // purple iris
Home is with You // iris
Home is with You // iris in bloom
Home is with You // black and white

Aren't they breath taking? My Mom's backyard is already an oasis and these just complete the scene. It's the perfect spot to take a break in the middle of the day and give my eyes a rest from this computer screen that I tend to stare at for far too long.

What about you, do you have a special flower that means something to you? I'd love to hear about it!

Makes me happy...

Today's challenge for Blog Every Day in May (which I'm making up my own rules for, obviously), Jenni asked us to share ten things that make us happy. I'm a pretty simple girl when it comes to these kinds of things and tend to be easily excited; so some of the things on my list are very fundamental, but make me oh so very happy.

≫≫ Sunshine. I've said it once, I'll say it a million times. The sunshine on my face makes me ridiculously happy.

≫≫ Hugs from my sweet nephews. And when my oldest nephew says, "Mawrie, you're pretty." with the most sincere look on his face. I melt.

Home is with You // flowers

≫≫ Flowers, whether they are inside my home, in my yard, or down the street...it doesn't matter. I just love the happiness they bring.

≫≫ Dancing in the kitchen with my love.

Home is with You // coffee

≫≫ A fresh cup of coffee or tea.

≫≫ Adventures. Road trips with Dave. Flying. Seeing new things...

Home is with You // book

≫≫ Reading a good book that you just can't put down.

≫≫ Catching up with a good friend, in person or on the phone it's just always great to hear a familiar voice and laugh at all the craziness of life.

Home is with You // branding

≫≫ Making and giving my clients their packages of goodies. And seeing their faces when they see all of the pictures for the first time.

≫≫ Ending the day with a glass of wine or a cold beer.

...what are some things that make you happy?

Lace shoes // Spring sweater.

I'm happy to report that it's finally starting to feel like May here in Kansas. Can I get an Amen? I was so over this long, dragged-out winter...especially since I'm trying to get as much of the hot sun as I can handle before I jet off to Alaska. Come on mother nature, help a girl out!

Anywayyyy, I love this sweater from Socishop so much because it is comfortable and airy. It's the perfect top to roll you right into the summer heat. I also adore the light blush color of the one I'm wearing below, but it does come in other colors, if that's your thing...

And don't even get me started on the shoes. These adorable lace slip-on shoes from Socishop are so comfy and cute I can't contain myself. I love them, I love them, I love them. The end.

Sweater & Shoes: c/o Socishop // Jeans & Tank: Target // Hat: c/o World Market // Sunglasses: Kohls // Owl Necklace: gift from Mom // Bauble ring: Shabby Apple (won in a giveaway!)

It is no lie when I say I wear this top every other day and these shoes about 6 days out of the week right now. You can ask anyone who sees me on the daily, I live in this stuff.
