Recording the new album, indie style...

There is nothing I love more than to watch Dave do what he does best, which is play his music...whether it's live or at home, he's in his element. And getting to be part of the recording process for Love Via Music and now his new album has pretty much made my life. I love being the first to hear the new tracks and the fact that Dave trusts my opinions on what to add/take away.

It's such a fun process and I really enjoy sharing it with you all in pictures. These are some of my favorites I've ever taken of Dave...

Merry Indie Christmas...

I know, I know we just had Thanksgiving...but today Casey, Danielle, Kate and Janel are hosting a "Merry Indie Christmas" link-up to share our handmade business products!

 I started my shop after I won a giveaway on a blog for a necklace (from a shop that shall remain nameless) and it was a hot glue gunned mess...there was hot glue residue everywhere. Then, I went to unfasten the it and the chain broke. Just like that. 

Dave was sitting there and said, "You could make it better than that!" And it got me thinking...why don't I make something? I've always loved being crafty and putting colors together and since I had a new love of hippie style headbands that was what I wanted to start with.

So I headed to some craft stores and my Mom brought me over a few things and I got to work. Now I can't get enough! I love creating things for you all and hope you love them as much as I do.

Buy local...

I ran across this yesterday and I couldn't help but share! I love it, it's so true. Our country is struggling right now and the best way to solve this problem is to buy local, independent merchants as often as possible. I know this can be difficult and sometimes expensive, but it's important.

This is definitely something we all need to remember especially as we start our holiday shopping this year. We can really make a difference if we all do our best to buy from small independent merchants before resorting to the big chain stores...just something to think about...

Let's be real...

...perusing a career in music is tough. I know I have been posting so much recently about all the great things that are happening for Dave's music (and they are wonderful), but that doesn't mean that we are on the downhill slide of this journey. Instead we are thankful for all the great opportunities coming our way and that things are still moving forward, but it also makes us realize how much further we have to go...

Also, these opportunities don't come without their cost. You have to spend money to make money, right? Well we are definitely still in the spend money side of things. While the album has been selling and things like that, we won't see money from iTunes for awhile still. Plus, the money from the television shows won't be coming until at least next spring. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again...Dave and I know that money is not what is important in life. We feel like we are blessed beyond measure to have found one another and that we're able to be together every day. That's what matters most in life to us. 

...but that doesn't mean that some days aren't rough. Everyone has their moments. Some days you just wake up with the weight of the world on your shoulders and you feel like all of the hard work you've been doing doesn't matter. And boy do we work hard. Some nights we have to make ourselves step away from the computer (work) and go to bed because it's late. But there is always something more you could be doing. To me it's worth it if it helps one more person hear Dave's music.
