Wife fail...and a happy 4 years to us!

This morning (since it's our anniversary), I planned on waking up early and surprising Dave with whole wheat pancakes. I also decided I'd get fancy and throw in a few blueberry's, why not. I had made this recipe before (you know, the one time I made pancakes) and they turned out great...

...today, not so much. I gave Dave his pancakes first as I took a few pictures and he was really quiet, which should have been my first clue because if he was thoroughly enjoying them he would have made a fuss over them. I asked if they were good and he says, "Yeahhhhh, pretty good." So I had to ask, "Pretty good as in great, or pretty good as in blah?" "Uhhhh, pretty good..." Hehe, sweet husband was trying to be nice.

Then I sat down to join him and took a bite and wanted to be sick. It was mushy (maybe because of the blueberry's?) and disgusting. I started cracking up because I knew he was just saying that to not hurt my feelings, these weren't pretty good...these were terrible.

Home is with You // Wife fail.

So, I tossed them in the trash and made us peanut butter toast. Fancy, I know. 4 years of marriage later and I still can't even make us pancakes. Better luck next year! But hey, in marriage you have to learn to be flexible and roll with the punches, and laugh when life gives you lemons...or in our case mushy pancakes.

On that note, any one have a whole wheat pancakes recipe for dummies? Send it my way please! I feel like I need to redeem myself after this one.

And since it's our anniversary...

Dear Valentine...

Dearest Valentine,

There is no one I'd rather walk through this life with than you. No matter how hard life gets, I know you're right there to catch me when I stumble. I'm forever thankful for that.

I'm so blessed by your patience, it's appreciated more than you know! Also, thanks for being you...I cherish your big, goofy, passionate, hopeless romantic heart.

I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us, but whatever life brings I'm happy to be facing it with you.

Forever Yours,
Mal

This is us...

Home is with You: This is us.

...me, no makeup and crazy/unbrushed hair that is still wet. Dave, with his UT Santa hat that my Dad got him. Hanging out in the bathroom at 11pm. Dave playing songs and me recording and taking pictures. This is us.

I love...

love this man: Home is with You

Last night while I was out running errands I got a text asking me out for date night tomorrow night....

I just love this man.

Pretty sure we're going to see the new Twilight movie (YES!), don't judge. I can't wait.

After tonight it'll be all packing and editing, but tonight we're going to enjoy date night. What are you up to this weekend?

3 years...

Photobucket

As I sit here it is the exact moment, 3 years ago, that I walked down the aisle towards Dave. Walking down that aisle and saying "I do" was the best decision I have ever made. Period. My life is so much fuller because of him...

Just last night, I was starting to pout a bit (as we women tend to do) about how we wouldn't get much time today to celebrate like we usually do. It's midterm week for Dave and he has tests today and a paper due tomorrow, plus meetings with people we met at SXSW (more on that later). Not to mention the fact that we can't afford to get each other gifts this year- which only makes me sad because there was something I really wanted to get Dave, but we just can't afford it...

...and Dave kissed me on the forehead, looked me in the eyes, and said, "it's ok, every day is a celebration of our marriage". HOW did I get so lucky? And he's right. Oh so right. Every day that passes is a celebration of our love and devotion to one another.

So cheers to 3 years, and forever...

...my rock, my favorite person, my comedic relief, my partner in crime, the love of my life...

Today is the day the world got a little brighter because of the light you brought when you were born...you are constantly punching holes in the darkness. I love you to no ends. Thanks for being you! Happy Birthday my love :)

You all can help him celebrate too! The best way to share some love with Dave is to share his music: share his facebook page, tweet about the music, share youtube videos, etc...you can find all of his links here. Let's make this his best birthday yet!

On this day, four years ago, Dave and I "met". We talked online for hours about anything and everything. He even mentioned that while he wanted to get married in the future, he wasn't hoping to any time soon...four months later he proposed.

I love this man more than I will ever be able to express, but I will spend my life trying. Time has flown since we've been together and we cherish every second.

I can't wait to see what the next few years in our story have in store for us!
I love you David Joseph Owens, my life is complete since I met you...

Dear Husband...

...I love you more every day. I feel so blessed I can call you mine. The decision to be your wife was the easiest one I've ever made and the one that has brought me the most happiness. I'm so proud of you for pursuing your dreams and thank you for encouraging me to do the same.

I love the sound of your music filling the house throughout the day and your beautiful voice singing me to sleep at night. Not to mention watching you on stage. The way your face lights up and you can't help but jump up and down and stomp your feet, it makes my heart happy.

Thanks for loving me.
Love always,
Mal

This song...

This song says it all for me. It is exactly how Dave and I feel about life...it would all mean nothing without each other. And we feel so lucky to be able to share our lives with one another. Everything is even more special these days having Dave by my side to share it all.

"The traveling, the singing, it don't mean nothing without you
The fast cars, the guitars, they are all just second to this life
this love that you and I've been dreaming of for so long
Would all be as good as gone without you"

I tear up every time I hear this song...good job Keith Urban, good job.

Wordless(ish) Wednesday {11}...

Last week Dave picked me up to run some errands and when I got to the car he had these flowers for me...just because...*swoon*...plus I had never gotten daisies before and I loved them!

...loved them so much in fact that I cut them down, put them in a hard rock glass, and took them to Texas with us :)

This...

...is love. I had already painted my fingernails and forgotten to take off the polish on my toes first. And every girl knows you can't take off toenail polish with freshly painted fingernails without taking off some of your beautiful work. So what's a girl to do? Luckily my husband is wonderful and giving. He did this without hesitation or complaining. If that's not love I don't know what is...

Hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend so far, I know we are :)

Easy...

Easy Love // Home is with You

So many people say they didn't realize how hard marriage would be until after they were married...how they went into it all blissful and unknowing and found themselves with a rude awakening. I've had the opposite experience. Even though I was blissfully happy when we got married (and still am), I didn't let it blind me, I knew Dave was the man created just for me.

Growing up with divorced parents and surrounded by marriages that were falling apart, I assumed marriage would be difficult. And while every couple has their moments (no one is perfect) marriage has been surprisingly easy for Dave and I...of course you have to always put the other person first and that takes work, but we enjoy working at it.

Husband...loving you is as easy as breathing...

By the way this pic was taken with the John S. lens and Blanko film in Hipstamatic...no further editing...amazing huh? It's my new phone backround :)

Wordless(ish) Wednesday {4}...

This man...words can not begin to describe what I feel for this man.  David Joseph Owens, thank you for marrying me. I feel so blessed to be your wife...I am unbelievably proud of you for going after your dreams and thank you for allowing me to do the same....

...oh and that sweet man of mine wrote this post over on his blog after reading my post from yesterday...did I mention he's amazing? Check it out!

All we need...

"And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright."
~Kenny Loggins

I know you all have heard this song before, but I just had to post the lyrics to the chorus. Last night Dave was preparing for his show at the Artichoke and he started playing this song. Now, he sings/plays this song at home all the time and it's always been one of my favorites, but last night it really hit me. I teared up a little when he got to this part as I was listening from the bathroom where I was getting ready...

...I just feel so blessed. Every morning I thank God for this amazing man who loves and adores me. And yes, even though we don't have money, we have each other and that is what is important. Everything else is just icing on the cake. So while we don't have every thing we want, we have everything we NEED (and yes, some of the things we want too.)

This month things have been tight, but we make it work. It's worth it to us to give up some things we may think we want now in order to put Dave on the right track for his music career. To me, he's too talented and the music is too special to not share it with the world.

Today I stumbled upon this quote by Joseph Campbell, "You must give up the life you had planned in order to have the life that is waiting for you." Amazing. And exactly what I needed to hear. I know that this life has wonderful things in store for Dave and I that I can't even begin to imagine. And I can't wait to see what they are! Even if it means that we end up driving/living in one of these for awhile...
