1. How long has your shop been open and how did you get started?

Sassy Lemonade has been opened for little over a year now. I’ve always had a thing for Jewelry, at first I was making it for my Friends and Family. Then I started getting stopped where ever I went, people asking me where I got what I was wearing. Figured why not try to open up a shop and see where it goes from there.

2. What item do you sell the most?

Any piece of Jewelry that consist of Anchors, they seem to always be a Hit.

3. For anyone with a shop, or hoping to open one soon, what is your biggest tip?

Give the Best Customer Service... I treat each Customer as if they were my First.

How cute is her stuff? And I wholeheartedly agree with her answer in question number 3...too bad more shop owners don't follow the same ideals...

Introducing Lauren from Tippee Canoe...

1.What made you decide to start a blog?

I first started my blog when I packed up and moved myself to Hawaii. I wanted to be able to document my feelings and experiences so I would be able to have the memories in pictures and writing! I also wanted to be able to keep my family and friends as updated as possible since I was so far away from them! Little did I know that this little blog would turn into SO much more!



2. I know you travel a lot, where is your favorite place to go (besides Hawaii, hehe)?

Haha well you got me there! ...Hawaii is always numero uno! BUT I have also loved traveling to other places! One of my favorite traveling experiences was in Chicago! That city is full of life and character and goooood food! Somewhere in Canada I absolutely LOVE is British Columbia...talk about G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S! That place is amazing and so diverse! Oh my I could go on and on about travelling....can you tell? & as of right now I am looking forward to my first ever trip to TEXAS! Which I am pretty excited about! Hopefully that will be coming soon!



3. Your blog has great pictures, I love all of your cute selfies! What's your advice for someone trying to get better pictures?    First of all umm thanks!! Photography is one of my passions and there is nothing like taking some shots, sitting back, and thinking DAAAANG that is a fantastic picture! Some advice I can give is to always try different angles. Everything looks SO different from another angle or perspective. Also, take the time to edit. Editing can be SO magical, and turn just an ordinary picture into something SO.MUCH.MORE. Lastly, just have fun with it! Some of the best pictures I have taken were just me goofing around and taking random shots.. those have been my favorite ones!

Introducing Le Hatchery...

Today I'm excited to introduce to you all Le Hatchery. Their pretty online shop is full of clothes and jewelry with a very bohemian feel to them. Today I asked them a few questions so you all could get to know their shop a little better.

1. What made you decide to open up your Storenvy shop?

Having taken a break from the fashion industry to find myself working on sailing boats in France I still needed a creative outlet. I started making dresses, jewellery & bags for friends, then friends of friends then eventually decided to open an online store. It's been a steep learning curve but I take great love & pride in hand-making unique garments & accessories & am so happy when people are drawn to the outcome.

Storenvy is particularly easy to set-up & use, I find the community to be so supportive of one another & understanding of small start-ups. Traveling around a lot means that I had to use a program that was easy to update on the move & so far it's been perfect.

2. I love the designs of your clothes, where do you draw inspiration from?

We mainly live in Cannes, France however am taken to UK & throughout Europe regularly (even as far as the Caribbean) for sailing regattas plus visit my homeland Australia once a year... so I'd have to say my biggest inspiration is travel! The interesting characters we get to meet along the way with stories, wonderful pictures, art & music means I'm constantly surrounded by new ideas/thoughts & these are all jotted down before they blow away in the wind. Many of our final products are made using re-purposed materials, the wonderful unique items I find while traveling all make up our vintage range & if it's not re-purposed we try to use organic fabrics as we have a strong eco philosophy. It makes me happy to be able to give people an alternative to mass-produced items.

3. What is your favorite item to make?

This is a hard one! There are definite phases of what I enjoy making depending on the creativity flow... some months I can't get enough of cross-stitch where as others I'll be on a roll with dresses & tanks. I like to think there is a little bit of love going out with every item, if I could I'd keep them all but then I wouldn't have a store!!

1. What made you decide to start a design company?

I started my design company as a way to help others make their blogs beautiful. I have always loved design, especially when I was younger, but never had the opportunity to take any classes in school. 2. What is your favorite thing you've designed so far, why?

1. What is your favorite thing to blog about?

My son is the thing I blog about the most but I have failed miserably lately, but it's because of being pregnant and sick. I need to get back to blogging about him and document him growing again. But now that I am pregnant I am really looking forward to blogging my pregnancy too!

2. I saw that you're currently obsessed with Harry Potter! As a fellow Potter lover I have to ask, which is your favorite?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows was definitely my favorite. I loved that book... but I have to say they were all so good.

3. I know you hoped and prayed for baby #2 and now you're pregnant, congrats! Any tips for anyone expecting or hoping to be someday?

I do have one piece of advice for those who are trying. Don't give up, don't get discouraged. It'll happen on it's own time and if it doesn't there are ways of having kids. Adopting is always an option... I was adopted so I greatly believe that it is just as amazing as having your own children. I wouldn't trade my family for anything!! We are planning on adopting ourselves someday too. And for those mom's who are expecting for the first time congrats first and foremost!, but secondly enjoy every.single.second of your pregnancy even the days where you feel horrible and when that little baby comes DO NOT wish their life away enjoy that little baby & cuddle cuddle cuddle them as much as possible because boy do they grow fast and then they do not want you to hold them at all {except for when they're sick} and you wish for that little baby to hold again.

...as a fellow adopted child I have to say I agree!

Adoption is a great option and that's wonderful that

you guys are wanting to do that in the future :)

Introducing Karen Norton: Author of PattySue Stories

Today I'm excited to have the honor of introducing you all to Karen Norton. This is a woman that I have always admired. She is now a published author of several books, including PattySue Finds a Home, but I will always remember her as Mrs. Norton- Head of The Independent School.

1. What inspired you to write the PattySue Stories?

When I met PattySue, it didn't take me long to realize that she had a very special personality. Since her owner, Kathy Simms-Melzer, and I are friends, we would walk together at least twice a week. Several times I had told Kathy I was going to write a story about PattySue, because she kept doing funny things. We wrote the book about 4 years ago, but because we couldn't afford to put it in print, it just sat. About two years ago, Kathy's son suggested we turn it into an eBook, since many of his friends with young children used iPads and Nooks for their children. After diligently searching for and finding an illustrator (Donavan Lawrence) who had the technical knowledge to create an eBook, we headed down that path.

2. Will there be more books about PattySue and her adventures?

Definitely! We already have one nearly completed and two in the "thought" stage. The next one will be PattySue learning about friendship, since she tries to play with every animal she encounters . . . some with not so great results! Luckily, she doesn't meet many skunks or porcupines.

3. As a published writer, do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

In the book Anne of Green Gables, Anne's friend, Gilbert, told Anne to "write what you know." Although I read Anne many years ago, I have always remembered that line, though I didn't really think it applied to me because I never anticipated becoming a writer. When I retired, I began to write a history of an area where I grew up. It didn't occur to me that I was writing what I know . . . but I was. My subsequent endeavors have included writing about The Independent School (A School Like No Other), which I know well, and PattySue. Suddenly, Gilbert's advice seemed so smart.

Also, this is not a process to be done by oneself. After I wrote the first draft of PattySue, Kathy read it and made many suggestions. Although she didn't tell me the book was boring, I guarantee you that her experience as an English major and as a principal player in a children's theater troupe (Tales for Tots) brought PattySue, Hugo, and Oscar to life. We needed each other to bring the story to fruition. With suggestions from many more adults and some children, we finally landed on what we think is a fun, lively story that is mostly true!

What made you start a blog?

I think it definitely was a long time coming. I've never been the journal writing type, or much of a writer, for that matter. but then I reached a point where no one I knew shared any of the same interests - other than music - and I wanted to talk about them with someone. Enter: Ruthanne with an E. I created my blog not with the intention of gaining a following, but with the intention of sharing my thoughts, hobbies, and opinion on things. I wanted it to be my corner, and I wanted people, if they stumbled upon it, to enjoy what I wrote or shared.

I saw you posted the first video of you singing one of your songs, gorgeous voice by the way, who are some of the artists that inspire you?

Thank you so very much! I've definitely been inspired by a lot of people. Adele is one of them. She's very real, raw, and not afraid to be out there. She plays the piano, too, which was an obvious plus. John Mayer has also inspired me - not him as a person, at all, but his ability to write such fantastic lyrics - they are such a big part of a song - and need to be great for the song to truly be great, and I love artists who write their own songs. Yet another reason I love Adele, as well. There are others, but those are two of the more prominent inspirations behind my music.

I know you have a love of all things vintage, what is your favorite vintage thing that you own or want to own?

Oh, definitely my vintage pyrex collection!! I absolutely adore using it in the kitchen, makes making anything happier, in my opinion - but I also love getting new pieces and wondering how many thanksgivings they attended - or birthday dinners. How many times it had almost been broken. Sounds absolutely strange, I know! I also love that it's a useful collection, too though. I know I will most definitely use all of the pieces in my house some day, and that alone makes me happy!

How did Underground Vintage get started?

Underground Vintage was born in 2010 after I had dug out my dust covered sewing machine to make a handmade gift for a friend. I had forgotten how much I loved to create and it soon became a realization that I could turn an old passion for sewing and vintage textiles into a business. Underground started in my parents basement, moved to my home, and then finally became an official studio and shop in an old shoe factory in my hometown. (the factory is home to over 20 local artists you can see pictures from my website) My sewing machine has not stopped since and I couldn't be happier. It is a truly humbling experience to create goods with your hands that people cherish and love.

What’s your favorite item in the shop?

To pick one item in my shop as a favorite is tough. I love love love making the little animals and babies because each one of them turn out so differently. I don't use patterns for ANYTHING so as I work on them I sometimes laugh out loud at their features as they come together. I also love the paper wreaths. I just find them so intriguing, and intricate and they too all look differently when they are finished. I also love them because they can be a personal gift for someone. I have done wreaths with sheet music from weddings, a broadway play, and vintage hunting magazines. Handmade gifts are the BEST!

Do you have any advice for others with a handmade business or those looking to start one?

Number 1: Never give up on your dreams! If there is something you want to do or accomplish you will find a way to make it happen. I still work a full time job, am a mommy, a wife, girl scout leader and run my studio and shop. Yes I am busy, but I have had more fun and met so many wonderful people in the last two years that it has changed my life.

Number 2: Network! Don't be afraid to email, leave blog comments, and reach out to other artists and crafters that are where you want to be with your business. I have been so humbled and surprised by the response that I have gotten from bloggers that have huge numbers of followers. (I never dreamed they would have time for little o'l me) but they have proved me wrong time and time again. I have "met" some really wonderful and inspiring people who have been a constant source of encouragement for me. So please please reach out to others!
